SQUASHFS error: Unable to read fragment cache block [111111]

I'm taking a test spin on Ubuntu (just a test spin. I still love you CentOS!) and started getting this error:

SQUASHFS error: Unable to read fragment cache block [111111]

lame: output buffer too small

Converting video to flv using FFMPEG and the output video kept coming out with no sound/audio. The error message said "lame: output buffer too small". The video played fine, but pretty useless without the sound. Apparently it's a well known problem with many advising reverting to Lame 3.98.

Oracle swallows Sun

OracleSun is no more. Oracle has been given the green light by regulatory authorities for it's acquisition of Sun. Now Oracle's plans for Sun are a bit more clearer.

Javascript running very slow in browser

After installing Centos 5, javascript was running very slow no matter what broswer I used - firefox or Opera. The issue is an out of date driver. Update your driver or switch drivers.

Whois Hacked

Whois.com has been hacked - the site is currently down with a 'not found' message.

China - The true color of internet regulations

As much as we poked fun at Google's innocence in thinking the Chinese would leave them alone the one good thing to come out of this story (Asides from exposing the Chinese two faced being-nice-while-hacking-every-commercial-company-going charade) is that China's attitude to the internet has been laid bare for all to see.

Google pulling out from china because of hacking

Google just doesn't get China. It never did. It entered the Chinese market in 2006 with a censored search engine. Doing so it angered many human rights activists by bowing to pressure from the Chinese government to censor sites and searches at the whim of the ruling Communist party. So much for the Google motto 'Do No Evil'. Apparently, Do No Evil does not extend to supporting access to information without it being censored.

Reading magazines in the future

This is pretty cool. Someday we'll all be reading magazines on e-reader type devices, able to read text, pictures, play videos and music, handle animation, zoom in, out, add to our social networks - almost like a tablet. Just don't spill the breakfast all over it!

Google's busy thursday

What a busy day Thursday turned out to be for Google. Not only did they launch a dictionary service and a translated web search service, Google also announced a new service that resolves DNS names. Maybe they were expecting that one to go unnoticed.
