The terms of the deals were not disclosed, but Twitter could be under pressure to start bringing in some kind of cashflow after recent investment in the company by investors that valued it at one billion. These deals are unique because they are the first time search engines have paid for content. Imagine if CNBC, CNN or all news organisations got together and demanded they be paid by search engines for their content?
Although both Bing and Google will have access, the deal is more of a coup for Bing. It has already set up it's twitter search page, http://www.bing.com/twitter while Google has said it's twitter search is a few months away.
Real time search is an area of growing importance to search engines. Particularly for items that may be in the news, getting results from search engines that are months old is of little use to users. |
