After installing Centos 5, javascript was running very slow no matter what broswer I used - firefox or Opera. The issue is an out of date driver. Update your driver or switch drivers.

My graphics card is an integrated XGI Z7/Z9. The driver I did download wouldn't even unpack (either I'm dumb or XGI are useless. I woudn't count out the former...).

The driver being used by the system was SIS - you can find this out by going to SYSTEM->ADMINISTRATION->DISPLAY. Select the tab HARDWARE and your graphic details will show up (or you can check /etc/xorg.conf or /etc/x11/xorg.conf)

If you click on configure you can select different drivers. I changed mine to VESA and presto! No more slow javascript loading. Everything running pretty smooth now.
